Responding to God’s call to work together to build a more just and peaceful world and to help the church understand itself as part of a global community, the CESCM partnership is committed to exploring effective ways to make common witness to God’s will for the ministry and mission of the church on college and university campuses and their communities, to encourage Christian students to leadership in the church and our society, and to promote denominational activities in the service of an ecumenical vision
that:
- is grounded in spirituality through Bible study, worship, service and mission that affirms our denominational diversity and calls us to Christian unity;
- grows out of the intention of “mainline” Protestant denominations to work cooperatively with Roman Catholics, historic Black denominations, Hispanic, Asian American and Native American communities in the U.S.
- can help U.S. students join with Christian students from around the world to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
Our priorities have been defined by these commitments and in consultation with the campus ministry communities we serve:
- to convene our denominations to host a national ecumenical student conference once every student generation;
- to encourage regional ecumenical student conferences between national conferences;
- to encourage denominations to initiate other national ecumenical student conferences around various themes – Christian vocation, mission, leadership development, etc.;
- to encourage dialogue among students of different denominations;
- to respond to the spiritual needs and provide opportunities for the spiritual growth of students;
- to provide a network through which denominations can share news, information and resources between ministries in higher education, global ministry and the WSCF;
- to encourage the development of networks for communication, resource sharing and accountability between national and regional ministries in higher education;
- to provide a contact point for communication with the WSCF, for relationships with the National Council of Churches’ Young Adult Ministries Team, and for various student groups to come together to share news, information and resources;
- to encourage and facilitate regional, national and international student exchange programs, leadership development programs and community service projects in collaboration with the WSCF;
- to establish a WSCF resource center in the U.S. that can provide ecumenical and global study and worship materials for campus ministers and students.
